Admissions to the School
The school caters for pre-Reception aged children. Children start school at the beginning of the term before their fourth birthday. Visits are arranged for the children to come into the school during the morning session for a few periods ,before they start school.
During their first term at school, nursery children can attend on a morning only basis, if the parents so desire. The pupils should be collected from school at 12.10pm . If, for any reason, parents are unable to collect their children then the school must be informed so that appropriate cover may be arranged. The children attending full day, must be collected at 3.30pm . |
School Uniform
The school has a simple uniform which consists of a royal blue sweatshirt, polo shirt or t-shirt embossed with the school logo.
Junior pupils will require suitable clothing for outdoor games throughout the year and all children should be equipped with shorts, trainers and a T-shirt for P.E. or games. Please label all items clearly.
An infant painting overall can be made from an old shirt . |
School Meals
Meals are available on a daily basis ( Price subject to change ), payable in advance on the first day of the week. During the meal and playtime, the children are supervised by an adult. Facilities are available for sandwich meals to be eaten under supervision. Free meals are available to families who satisfy the requirements laid down by the Authority |
Curriculum
The School organisation is based around chronologically arranged, mixed ability groups within each class. We try to ensure a fairly evenly balanced number of pupils in each class.
The class teacher mainly teaches core subjects (Welsh, English, Maths, and Science), but designated teachers teach some foundation subjects –e.g. history, music and religious education.
Some subjects, where suitable, are taught through a theme.
Changing circumstances, both financial and the number of pupils on roll, may compel a change to the above class structure – at short notice. At any given time any class may contain children from more than one age group. The head teacher will inform parents of any changes.
|
Language Policy
The School Language Policy follows the Authority's Language policy for Category A' school. This means that Welsh is used as the main medium within school. Children in Key Stage 1 are taught through the medium of Welsh. This is dealt with sensitively and sensibly in the case of non-Welsh speaking children. Their mother tongue will be used when appropriate to facilitate the building of a firm, successful relationship between child and teacher. Parents of children of all ages are expected to support this policy. It is essential to the children that harmony exists between the school and the home on this most important issue. English as a subject is introduced during the last terms of Key Stage 1. Children are taught bi-lingually in Key Stage 2. Late comers must attend the Language Centre at Bro Myrddin Welsh Language Comp School .
|
Special Needs
We follow the guidelines set out by the authority. When difficulties are recognized the staff will consult with the parents, and if necessary place the child on the appropriate stage of the Special Needs Register, where he/she will then be allocated a set time with the Special Needs teacher.
Children with a Statement of Education Needs are supported by the authority, within the school. Provision for especially gifted children is also within the classroom environment. |
Instrumental Lessons
The school can offer lessons in the following instruments: clarinet, flute, violin and recorders. There is no charge.
Religious Education and Collective Worship
The main emphasis will be on Christianity, but we will also study other religions. During morning Assemblies, we sing, pray and listen to Biblical stories, or stories with a moral message. The children participate. The local Vicar/ chapel representative takes morning Assembly every Friday.
|
Consultation with Staff
Parents are invited to school to discuss any aspect of school life. A telephone call would be appreciated to make an appointment at a mutually convenient time.
|
Medical Provision
We have no provision in the school for any medical attention other than First Aid. Parents will be contacted if the child becomes ill or has a serious accident in school. If we are unable to contact the Parent, we may contact the child's Doctor, or an Ambulance in any serious situation.
The Staff can not administer any medicines without the written consent of parents and a record of the medicine and dosage.
The school Nurse conducts annual vision and hearing tests at school.
The County's Dental Officer visits the school. |

Children will be given the same opportunities at the school, whatever their gender, nationality, religion, colour or disability.
