The tollgate at Efailwen was the first tollgate that Rebecca and his women took down on the 13th of May, 1839. In the middle of the night, local farmers dressed as women with black faces to attack the tollgate. They were protesting against the owners of the tollgates who charges extorianate prices to use the roads. The leader was a local man called Twm Carnabwth.
