Morfa Junior School / Ysgol Iau y Morfa

Our Globe Project On the 24th January 2001 we successfully enrolled as the first Welsh School to join the Globe Project. This International Project collects environmental data where it is then published on a database that can be accessed by Globe Schools world wide and scientists who need data for their research. In Morfa we hope to collect weather data and also information regarding the Loughor Estuary.

The River Loughor is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is the home of many resident and migratory birds. The rich estuarial mud flats provide the base for a huge environmental foodchain. Iniatially we intend to collect weather data but our target is to monitor weather conditions and environmental conditions on a number of sites near to the school. Our ambition is to set up site based in the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust Site in Penclacwyd which is only about I mile south-east of the school.
