Starting School / Dechrau Ysgol

Children are admitted the term before their fourth birthday, unless entering from Ammanford Nursery School when they start at the beginning of the term in which they attain their fifth birthday. Arrangements are made for children to attend the School for half days towards the end of term prior to their admission. Parents will be contacted on these occasions.

In the Early Years we follow a broad curriculum which has been developed to meet the needs of young children. The child is introduced to a wide range of knowledge, understanding and skills in the following areas of learning and experience.

The areas of learning and experience are:-

School Discipline / Disgyblaeth Ysgol

Good behaviour is an absolute necessity for effective teaching and learning. Children are encouraged to abide by the rules of the School at all times. The whole staff work together to ensure that the children develop autonomous behaviour. If children are punished for any misdemeanour it is always made clear to them why they are being punished. Punishment will always be reasonable. Parents will always be informed of any continuing behavioural problems.

Mae ymddygaid da yn hanfodol i ddysgu effeithiol. Dylai plant ymddwyn yn gwrtais bob amser - disgwylir hyn gan y gymdeithas. Er hynny, fe fydd yna broblemau yn codi weithiau. Pan ddigwydd hyn, trafodi’r yn gynnar gyda’r rhiant yn lle gadael nes ei fod yn rhy hwyr.

Charging and Remissions Policy.

The school does not charge parents for activities carried out during school times. This means that musical tuition is free, though children may have to wait until a school owned instrument becomes available. If a child has to leave school early parents are requested to explain the reason to the class teacher or send a note informing the school of the reason.

Medicines should if possible, be given to children at home. If it is necessary for a child to receive medication during the school day parents should discuss the matter with the child’s class teacher. Children should not be on the school premises sooner than ten minutes before School commences in the morning as supervision cannot be guaranteed.

Inspection of documents / Arolwg o ddogfennau

Documents required to be made available by regulation may be inspected at the school. Parents are requested to make arrangements with the school as to when it is convenient to do so.

Gellir edrych ar ddogfennau a gedwir yn unol a gofynion y Llywodraeth yn yr ysgol wedi gwneud trefniadau ymlaen llaw gyda’r prifathro.

School Savings Club / Clwb Cynilo’r Ysgol

All pupils are welcome to join. Contributions are collected on the first school day every week.

Mae croeso i bob plentyn ymuno. Cesglir cyfraniadau y diwrnod ysgol cyntaf bob wythnos.

The Parent Teachers Association / Y Gymdeithas Rieni ac Athrawon.

The school has an active and extremely supportive Parents Teachers Association. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month to discuss school matters and functions which are held regularly so that parents get to know each other and money is raised to supplement school provisions. The association extends a warm welcome to all new parents. We are fortunate to have such a hard working P.T.A.

Mae gan yr ysgol Gymdeithas Rieni ac Athrawon cefnogol. Cynhelir cyfarfodydd yn fisol i drafod materion yn ymwneud a’r ysgol a threfnau’r weithiau cymdeithasol fel bo pawb yn dod i adnabod ei gilydd ac i godi arian i hybu’r ddarpariaeth yn yr ysgol. Estynna y C.R.A groeso cynnes i bob rhiant newydd.

Rydym yn ffodus o gael Cymdeithas arbennig o weithgar yn y ysgol.

Pastoral Care / Gofal Bugeiliol

The school aims to create a community which has a warm and friendly atmosphere so that the children have a sense of care and security. The teachers work as a team and are responsible to the Headteacher for the general welfare of pupils. The school liases when necessary with other agencies at the transfer stage.

Bwriad yr ysgol ydy creu cymdeithas ac awyrgylch gyfeillgar a chynnes er mwyn i’r plant gael yr ymdeimlad o gyfeillgarwch a sicrwydd. Gweithreda’r athrawon fel tim a’r prifathro yn gyfrifol am ofal cyffredinol y plant. Cysyllta’r ysgol a chyfrannau eraill pan fo angen neu ar adeg trosglwyddo’r plant.

Religious Education / Addysg Grefyddol.

The whole school meets for assembly on at least two occasions during the week, with a separate Infant and Junior assembly on the other three days of the week. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from assembly and suitable arrangements will be made for their supervision.

Mae’r ysgol gyfan yn cwrdd dwy waith yr wythnos i gynnal gwasanaeth, gyda’r adranau Iau a Babanod yn cwrdd ar wahan ar y tri diwrnod sy’n weddill. Mae hawl gan rhiant i gadw ei blentyn allan o’r gwasanaeth bore a threfnir a’r ysgol ar gyfer hynny.

Sex Education / Addysg Rhyw

Sex Education is not taught as a subject. However, as children naturally inquisitive, various aspects can be explored in Science, Religious Education, Stressing the importance of caring, family life and personal relationships.

Ni ddysgir Addysg Rhyw fel pwnc. Fodd bynnag, mae gan blant feddyliau ymholiadol ac felly gellir trafod gwahanol agweddau yn y meusydd canlynol: Gwyddoniaeth, Addysg Iechyd ag Addysg Grefyddol. Pwysleisir bob amser y pwysigrwydd o ofalaeth, bywyd teuluol a pherthynas bersonol.

Arrangements for Special Educational Needs.

Since September 1994 the school has been implementing the Government’s "Code of Practice" for children with Special Educational Needs. Care and attention is given to those children who are in need of educational support. The school employs a support teacher ensuring that these children receive individual attention daily. Pupils work is constantly appraised and their needs noted where assistance and support is given within the classroom or in small groups so as to improve on their work. All the resources of the Authority are available to assist those with specific difficulties. Our policy is to ensure all pupils needs are considered individually, so that the programme of study that they follow is relevant to their needs; to identify individual learning difficulties, and to organise and manage the support of the pupils from all levels of ability. To provide a support for all subjects as well as the basic skills of literacy and numeracy is also emphasised.

Anghenion Arbennig.

Mae holl adnoddau’r Sir ar gael ar gyfer dysgu plant ag anghenion arbennig. Os ydy plentyn ar ol yn ei waith gellir ei ymaelodi a grwp bychan i geisio gwella ei wendidau. Mae gan yr ysgol ar hyn o bryd athrawes anghenion arbennig. Mae’r athrawes yma yn cynnig cymorth, cefnogaeth, annogaeth yn ogystal a gwaith a thasgau estynedig lle bo angen. Darperir deunydd a thasgau gwwahaniaethol sy’n cynnig cyfle i bob unigolyn fwynhau’r teimlad o lwyddo fel bob disgybl yn gweithio hyd eithaf ei allu personol. Ein polisi yw sicrhau bod anghenion ein disgyblion yn cael eu hystyried yn unigol ac i drefnu cefnogaeth i’r plant o bob lefel a allu. Pwysleisir ar roi cymorth ym mhob pwnc ynghyd a sgiliau sylfaenol darllen, defnyddiau wedi eu haddasu ar gyfer anghenion plant unigol.

Homework / Gwaith Cartref.

The education of any child will be enhanced if home and school work together in partnership. We hope to install in our children a love of learning and to encourage them to develop the desire to seek out the information they will need using appropriate resources. Homework helps both children and parents to enjoy shared time and to appreciate each others needs. At Parcyrhun C. P. School we feel that properly designed homework can play a valuable part in a child’s education.

  1. To encourage pupils to develop the practice of independent study.
  2. To develop perseverance and self-discipline.
  3. To allow practice, where it is needed, of skills learned in the classroom.
  4. To permit more ground to be covered and more rapid progress to be made.
  5. To involve parents – and other adults – in pupils work.
  6. To prepare older pupils for secondary education.
Extra-Curricular Activities / Gweithgareddau Allgyrsiol.

Extra curricular activities are of vital importance to the school for several reasons. They are an essential part of the individual’s personal and educational development. Although the school serves a distinct catchment area, it aims at broadening the horizons of the pupils with visists to the theatre, cinemas, areas of special interest, Urdd activities and concerts on special occasions. When an outside visit is arranged the school asks parents to make a voluntary contribution towards the costs.

Mae gweithgareddau allgyrsiol yn holl bwysig i ni fel ysgol am nifer o resymau. Er mai ysgol ardal ydy hon, bwriedir enhangu gorwelion y plant drwy ymweld a’r theatr, sinema, sefydliadau o ddiddordeb arbennig, chwaraeon, gweithgareddau’r Urdd a chyngherddau ar amseroedd penodedig. Gwahoddir y rhieni i gyfrannu tuag at gostau’r ymweliadau.

We also encourage children who participate in activities at local clubs to inform us of certificates etc. they have been awarded. Presentations are made in the school assemblies and children are complimented on achievements at clubs and societies during their leisure time. The clubs include Brownies, local Rugby Clubs, Amman Valley Swimming Club and St. John Ambulance.

Pupil Progress and Reporting to Parents / Cofnodion Cyrhaeddiad ac Adrodd yn ol i Rhieni.

The school adopts a continual assessment policy together with formal assessment at Key Stage 1 (seven years) and Key Stage 2 (eleven years old). Evenings are set aside each year to meet class teachers to discuss their child’s progress. Parents are informed by letter of the dates and times of meetings.

Gweithredir polisi o asesu parhaol yn ogystal ag asesu ffurfiol yng Nghyfnod Allweddol 1 (saith oed) a Chyfnod Allweddol 2 (un ar ddeg oed). Neilltuir nosweithiau ar gyfer rhieni i drafod cynnydd eu plentyn gyda’r athro / athrawes ddosbarth. Hysbysir rhieni drwy lythyr o ddyddiadau’r cyfarfodydd.
